Our Purpose

Community Compass has been providing accessible and affordable training and services to not-for-profits throughout NSW since 1991.

Formerly known as Central Coast Voluntary Treasurers Support Service, beginning with a small group of dedicated individuals who were committed to supporting the community sector, helping treasurers implement best practice when managing their organisation’s finances.

Over the years, with continued support from the NSW Government, Community Compass has evolved into a multi-faceted professional resource for the not-for-profit sector. Responding to the ever changing needs of the community sector, we expanded our services to include education and training, as well as bookkeeping, systems analysis, committee awareness and board support.

Community Bookkeeping Solutions project was launched in 2005. Our vision is to provide the community sector with a well-resourced, flexible service meeting the needs of record keeping and accountability of all financial concerns for the organisation.

In 2008, we embarked on the exciting mission of re-defining our organisation to ensure that we connect with the community and promote our services within the sector. With the launch of our new name, motto and website, we have taken another step toward growth and success.

As we look toward a dynamic future, we proudly retain our key founding principle which is to strengthen the organisations that make our community strong.

Chairman: Dimitrios Gongolidis


Sales & Marketing executive with over 18 years experience exceeding targets in the telecommunications, banking and consumer/retail sectors. Dimitrios’s successful track record includes managing B2C (retail/direct). wholesale, B2B (corporate & government), 3rd party distributors as well as overseas channels. Dimitrios is an innovative strategist able to identify, launch and manage product/services with immediate results. Dimitrios currently works as the Sales, Marketing & Strategy Director Australia/New Zealand for Oracle Corporation.

General Manager and Treasurer: Niqui Hicks Shaw

Dip Marketing, Dip HR, Dip Fin Planning, Adv Dip Fin Planning Niqui Hicks Shaw is an experienced, proven business professional with over 20 years experience in the IT and Consulting & Integration Services Industry. Niqui is the owner of SunAware Consultancy, a provider of Advisory and Consulting Services. Niqui previously worked for Apple Computers as the Managed Services & Partner Alliances Manager for the South Pacific Region. Prior to this Niqui worked for Hewlett Packard Australia in the role of Program Manager. This role was an extension of experience gained as a Direct Business Development Manager within Hewlett Packard UK & Europe before internal transfer back to Australia in 2003. Before this, having completed the Compaq Computers Graduate Program, Niqui delivered many successful customer based projects as a Project Manager / Technical Consultant for Compaq, and Hewlett Packard Consulting & Integration Finance Practice based in London.

Niqui is an active member of her community and has a long history of volunteering and providing pro bono assistance to various organisations and initiatives including; family and domestic violence programs, Community Compass, Ovarian Cancer Australia and the local sporting community. During the 90’s Niqui also volunteered internationally tutoring refugees in English.

Vice Chairman: Bettina Esposito

Bettina Esposito, currently Service Delivery Manager for Wesley Mission and Volunteer Board Member for Community Compass.

Bettina is a passionate leader with strategic vision, innovation and the ability to empower her team to strive for excellence in all areas of business. Bettina has over 20 years’ experience in the Human Service Sector with strong financial management skills. Bettina has a passion for Quality Management System (QMS) and continuous improvement.

Board Member: Joanna Copeland

M. Risk Management, B.Bus [Marketing & Employee Relations], Adv Dip WHS, Dip Quality Auditing and Cert IV Training & Assessment

Joanna is an education and capability professional with over 15 years’ experience in multiple sectors: Vocational Education and Training [VET]; Higher Education and Corporate Learning and Development – leading the development of capability frameworks; and managing the design and implementation of national training programs – primarily in the area of work health & safety, risk management, compliance and leadership.

Additionally, Joanna is a quality, compliance and risk management professional that has designed and implemented new management systems for work health & safety; food safety and/or quality management in highly regulated and/or high risk industries such as Aged Care, Health Care, Disability Services, Education, Construction, Retail Property Management, Retail, Defence, Tourism and Hospitality, Food Manufacturing and Catering.
